P-BRUINS DEFEAT SHARKS 3-2
Back At The Dunk Friday Versus San Antonio Rampage
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Worcester Sharks 3-2 Sunday afternoon in front of 9,121 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Brad Marchand and two goals from Mikko Lehtonen. The first place P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday versus the San Antonio Rampage at 7:05 p.m. for Matt Hunwick Bobblehead Night.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 10:55 mark of the opening period. Wacey Rabbit had the puck in the slot and sent it to Adam McQuaid at the right point. He took a shot and the rebound came to Marchand, who tallied his 11th goal of the season. Providence took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Worcester tied the game at one, while on the power play at the 13:45 mark of the second period. Jamie McGinn netted his 15th goal of the season with Lukas Kaspar and Matt Fornataro recording the assists. The game went into the second intermission tied at one.
The Sharks took their only lead of the game at the 45-second mark of the third period, while on the power play. McGinn scored his second goal of the game with Patrick Traverse and Ryan Vesce getting the assists. The P-Bruins tied the game at the 3:35 mark, while on the power play. Marchand had the puck in the slot and fed it back to McQuaid. He sent it towards the net and Lehtonen was there to push it in for his 15th goal of the season. Providence retook the lead at the 18:24 mark. Martin St. Pierre held the puck at the left point and sent it to Johnny Boychuk at the right point. He took a shot and Sharks net minder Thomas Greiss was there to make the save, but the rebound was left in front of the net. Lehtonen settled the puck down before tipping it into the net with his stick for his second goal of the game and 16th of the season. The P-Bruins held on for the 3-2 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 26 of 28 shots for the P-Bruins, while Greiss made 31 saves for the Sharks. The P-Bruins were 2-for-5 on the power play and 2-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Providence returns to action Friday at The Dunk for Matt Hunwick Bobblehead Night at 7:05 p.m. against the Rampage. The P-Bruins then head to the Cumberland County Civic Center Saturday to take on the Portland Pirates at 7:00 p.m. The P-Bruins wrap up the weekend at The Dunk Sunday for Kid's Hat Night at 4:05 p.m. versus the Manitoba Moose.
