Game 7 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Wednesday at 7:05pm

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 2-1 in overtime Monday evening at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.  Craig Cunningham scored the lone P-Bruins goal, while Niklas Svedberg made 16 saves in the losing effort.  Game 7 will be back in Providence at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center this Wednesday, May 22 at 7:05pm.  The best-of-seven series is tied at three games apiece.

The Penguins came out of the gates quick, picking up where they left off in game five with a couple of three-shot attempts early in the first period. Svedberg made frequent stops to keep it a scoreless contest along with a handful of blocked shots. The P-Bruins had their first scoring chance of the game later in the period, putting the puck off the far post, but were unable to score.  The game went into the first intermission scoreless.

Cunningham gave the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead at the 1:07 mark of the second period with a backhander from the near side during a sloppy Wilkes-Barre line change that created a 3-on-1. Chris Bourque and Jamie Tardif recorded the assists. The goal came just after the end of a power play.

The Penguins tied the game at one while on a man advantage. Just as a 5-on-3 expired, Brian Dumoulin’s slapper clanged off of the far post and into the net for his second goal of the playoffs. Derek Nesbitt and Trevor Smith each grabbed an assist.  The game went into the second intermission tied at one.

In the third period, the P-Bruins applied a great deal of pressure to the Penguins outshooting them 20-2, but were not able to capitalize and the game went into overtime still tied at one.

At the 3:26 mark of sudden-death overtime, Trevor Smith snuck the puck in from the near post on a wrap-around, giving the Penguins the 2-1 victory.  Alex Grant picked up the lone assist on the goal.

The P-Bruins ended the day 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Penguins went 1-for-5. Brad Thiessen made 46 saves for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
