P-BRUINS FALL TO PIRATES 4-2

Back At The Dunk Sunday vs. Springfield Falcons

Portland, ME - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates 4-2 Saturday evening at the Cumberland County Civic Center.  The P-Bruins got their goals from Johnny Boychuk and Peter Schaefer.  The first place P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday versus the Springfield Falcons at 4:05 p.m. for a Family Game.

In the opening period, the P-Bruins got on the board at the 8:25 mark, while on the power play. Schaefer held the puck in the zone and found Jeff Penner at the blue line.  He left the puck for Boychuk and Boychuk skated into the right face off circle and blasted the puck into the net for his seventh goal of the season.  Portland tied the game at one at the 17:55 mark.  Derek Whitmore netted his fourth goal of the season, while Marek Zagrapan and Matt MacDonald recorded the assists.  The game went into the first intermission tied at one.

In the second period, the Pirates took their first lead of the game at the 7:35 mark.  Dylan Hunter tallied his first goal of the season, with Mathieu Darche and Paul Baier getting the assists.  Portland grabbed a two-goal lead at the 19:18 mark.  Darche scored his tenth goal of the season, while Hunter and Zagrapan earned the assists.  Portland took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.

In the third period, Portland took a 4-1 advantage at the 5:36 mark.  Colton Fretter tallied his tenth goal of the season with Baier and Felix Schutz getting the assists.  The P-Bruins were able to pull back within two goals at the 15:11 mark.  Martins Karsums dropped the puck off to Schaefer who netted his fourth goal of the season.  Brad Marchand picked up the second assist as the P-Bruins fell to the Pirates 4-2.

Tuukka Rask stopped 25 of 29 shots and Kevin Regan stopped five shots for the P-Bruins, while Jhonas Enroth made 18 saves for the Pirates.  The P-Bruins were 1-for-6 on the power play and 7-for-7 on the penalty kill.
