P-BRUINS FALL IN SHOOTOUT TO MONARCHS 5-4

Back At The Dunk Sunday vs. Manchester Monarchs

Manchester, NH - The Providence Bruins fell to the Manchester Monarchs 5-4 in a shootout Saturday evening at the Verizon Wireless Arena.  The P-Bruins got their goals from Martin St. Pierre, Peter Schaefer, Zach Hamill and Mikko Lehtonen.  The P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday versus the Monarchs at 4:05 p.m. for Zach Hamill Poster Night.

In the opening period, the Monarchs took a 1-0 advantage while on a 5-on-3 power play opportunity.  At the 6:04 mark, Viatcheslav Voynov tallied his fourth goal of the season, while Gabe Gauthier and Marty Murray picked up the assists. Thirty-one seconds later, while still on the power play the Monarchs scored again.  Brian Boyle netted his second goal of the season with Trevor Lewis and Murray getting the assists.  Manchester finished off the first period scoring with their third power play goal of the game at the 18:45 mark.  Lewis scored his seventh goal of the season, while Boyle and Murray recorded the assists.  Manchester held a 3-0 lead going into the first intermission.

Providence cut the lead by a goal at the 4:29 mark of the second period.  Schaefer got the puck out of the P-Bruins end and into the neutral zone for Lehtonen.  He found St. Pierre down the left wing giving him a breakaway.  St. Pierre scored his ninth goal of the season from the left face off circle.  The P-Bruins continued to cut the Monarchs lead at the 11:57 mark.  Kevin Schaeffer took a shot from the right point and Schaefer redirected it into the net from the slot.  St. Pierre grabbed the second assist.  Manchester retook a two goal advantage at the 14:11 mark. Eric Werner netted his first goal of the season with Scott Parse and Lewis picking up the assists.  Manchester led 4-2 going into the second intermission.

In the third period, the P-Bruins pulled back within a goal at the 2:19 mark.  Matt Marquardt stole the puck along the boards and left it for Brad Marchand.  He found Hamill in front of the net as Hamill scored his second goal of the season.  Providence tied the game at four at the 16:41 mark.  Lehtonen tallied his sixth goal of the season from just outside the right post with St. Pierre and Schaefer getting the assists.  The game went into overtime tied at four.

After a scoreless overtime the game headed into a shootout where Vladimir Dravecky scored the lone goal and Manchester went on to the 5-4 shootout victory.

Kevin Regan stopped 28 of 32 shots he faced for the P-Bruins, while Jonathan Bernier made 39 saves for the Monarchs.  The P-Bruins were 0-for-7 on the power play and 2-for-5 on the penalty kill.
